Tip Calculator & Bill Splitter
Enter the bill, pick a tip percentage, and split it evenly — everything updates instantly.
How tip splitting works
This calculator multiplies your bill amount by the tip percentage you choose to get the tip amount, adds that to the bill for a total, then divides the total evenly across the number of people you specify. If your bill amount doesn't already include tax and you'd rather tip on the pre-tax subtotal (which is technically more standard, since tip is meant to reward service, not tax the government collects), enter your tax separately — the calculator will compute the tip on the amount before tax and then add tax back in for the final total.
Should I tip before or after tax?
Tipping on the pre-tax subtotal is the more traditional convention, though many people simply tip on the total bill for simplicity — either is common practice, so use whichever your group prefers.
What's a standard tip percentage?
15–20% is the most common range for sit-down restaurant service in the U.S., with 20% increasingly common for good service, though norms vary by service type and region.
